Registration
If
you have recently moved to Monroe County, it’s time to register
your children for school. Parents of children entering
the Monroe County School District are encouraged to register
their children before the first day of classes.
When
you register, you will need the following:
- Birth
Certificate
- Proof
of a health exam within the last 12 months, or proof of an
upcoming appointment for the exam within 30 days.
- Florida
Certificate of Immunization
- Social
Security card for student (if available)
- Proof
of residency
- Proof
of custody if student doesn’t live with both natural parents
- Children
entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before September
1st, 2003. Students entering first grade must be 6 years old
on or before September 1st, 2003 and must have completed kindergarten.
Children
who attended school locally last year do not need to register
again. Florida law requires children attending public schools
to present proof of immunization and a current physical examination
before they attend school. Children who attended school locally
last year must have their current records on file with the school.
First
Grade Requirements
Children
who will be six years old on or before September 1, 2003, may
enter the first grade if they have satisfactorily completed kindergarten
as demonstrated by satisfactory performance on a standardized
test. Children entering the 1st grade in a public school who
attended private school for kindergarten must take a standardized
test to enroll in first grade in a public school. Immunizations
